Telesians 1: The Siren's Challenge
by Alice Gaines

From the site:
He had a weapon too lethal to use. She had an ore-rich moon his government wanted. Two cultures clash in space, using sex as a weapon of the heart. Which one will win the Siren's Challenge?

Captain Jeff Holst's orders from High Command -- take control of an Alliance-owned moon and its wealth of the essential mineral iridium -- would be a lot simpler to carry out if Telesian Commander Chiara DaeJanay weren't already there, staking a claim to the same moon. Her suggestion to settle their differences is the Siren's Challenge: they face each other one on one and the winner takes the moon. Only, the Challenge isn't physical combat... it's sexual. Jeff has four days to win the Challenge before High Command sends in someone else, someone with the resolve to use the weapon he refuses to deploy -- because it will wipe out life in half the galaxy.

Chiara has her own problems. She's a sixth-level expert in sexual competition, but when a Telesian's body decides it's found its mate, there's no way to fight it. Can two competing commanders reach a compromise as they fight themselves and their cultures?

The lengths Chiara and Jeff go to in order to win make for some very erotic scenes! They take turns laying down the rules for each bout of sex -- trying to ensure the other reaches climax first. On the way, they enact many fantasy-type scenarios, each hotter than the last. My attention was caught from page one and I raced on to find out who would win the next round.

I've always enjoyed Ms. Gaines' writing, and I was excited to read her first Changeling Press release. It definitely lived up to my expectations! A hunk in uniform, sexual competition, and two people used to total control who have to learn to trust each other and their own emotions -- who could want more? This author certainly knows how to combine hot sex, great sci-fi, and heart-wrenching emotion in one fantastic book. The only thing better than reading The Siren's Challenge is knowing that there are two more books in the series to read!
