So who's in the Hot Spot for August?

This month, we welcome Changeling Press author Marteeka Karland whose fourth book in the Elementals series, Goddess of Air, comes out shortly! She also just released the fourth installment of the Forbidden books, New Beginnings.

Sierra Dafoe: So tell me, Marteeka, is that name prophetic? Can we expect to see more books in the Forbidden series?

Marteeka Karland: Well, as far as I know, the Forbidden series is finished. Whew!! However, you can never tell if I'll decide to visit Goth'mar again, in another series. =)

SD: I love the concept behind the Forbidden books -- "Can a soul have more than one mate -- or is it FORBIDDEN?" -- and the spicy menages that result! Who wouldn't want to be the desired object of two hot, hunky men! What prompted the idea for the series in the first place?

MK: Well, the first book didn't have a ménage, BUT it just seemed to be a natural step in the second and fourth books. The third book was a little different in that there were so many mind games and a woman who was sick to death of them. =)

SD: Of your two Forbidden trios, which do you love best -- and why??

MK: Well, I guess I like Mara, Mikkarn and Kiril the best. Mara kicks ass and the other two - very strong willed males - are simply along for the ride!

SD: See, I love that -- I love strong characters interacting like that, especially strong women, LOL!

But I'm so bummed! As of this interview, the blurb for Goddess of Air isn't up yet -- can you tell us a bit about the story? Huh huh pleeease?

MK: LMAO!! Goddess of Air is Angelina and Chaos's story. You have the most powerful Elemental pitted against the most powerful non-Elemental. Needless to say the sparks FLY! In the end, the Goddess of Air has to decide if she trusts the one man she should never trust. If she's wrong, Chaos could very well destroy all the Elementals.

SD: And how does one go about researching 'elemental' sex, anyway? =)

MK: grin Well, lets just say I have a 6oz bottle of Adam and Eve lubricant and I know how to use it.

SD: While we're on the subject… Of all the steamy sex scenes you've written, which one is your favorite?

MK: Oh MAN! That's a tough one. I'm going to say the last sex scene in The Witching Hour because it was outside anything I'd ever done or dreamed of doing. And it worked. It shocked some, but sent that - snerk - forbidden thrill down the spine of many readers.

SD: Which one is something you'd love to try?

MK: LMAO!!! Oh my!! It would have to be one of the ménages. I mean, you can't be a writer who writes that stuff and not at least dream of trying it.

SD: So far, in the Elementals, you've covered Fire, Earth, Water, and now Air… So what's coming next for you, as a writer? Or did I miss one?

MK: Nope. You got them all. Goddess of Air will close out The Elementals, so it will be on to new and exciting series. =) The next series for me will be the Black Star series. It will be science fiction with a bit of a darker twist. (Think Babylon 5 vs. Star Trek.) My next stand alone title will be out in mid September and is called Opposites Attract. All I can say there is some species just simply don't mix, and I'm leaving it at that. =)

Writing:

Favorite writing apparel? Boxer briefs and a t-shirt

Favorite writing implement? My laptop computer.

Favorite form of inspiration? Movies. I watch something and think… wonder what would happen if this situation suddenly turned dirty. =)

Favorite part of writing? Getting the formatted copies back. Cause I know it's ALL DONE!
