Hot Spot Interviews
(formerly "Hot Spot" Interviews)

So, there isn't anything else to fix, LOL. Seriously, I'll still do "Fix It" articles as ideas strike me, but when Sierra asked if I'd like to take over the author interviews for the e-zine, I couldn't tell her no. Who could?

Since I'm oh, so naughty and love being that way, I thought it was appropriate to call my interviews "Time Out". It makes me think of taking a break and, well, punishment, LOL. Then again, pain is pleasure for me, so it's all good *BEG*.

Every month, I'll be taking time out to visit with Changeling authors new and old. I'll ask a few questions that hopefully everyone hasn't seen before and after the authors suffer through my grilling *WEG* they will share a spicy tidbit from one of their books.

This month, I tagged Alecia Monaco. From fairies to vampires, Alecia's fertile imagination always makes for a good read, but her warmth and off-beat sense of humor shines through in her characters. And that makes them unforgettable to me.

ER: Just about all of us have been asked why we decided to be writers, LOL. My question isn't why, but rather, when did you write what you consider to be your first story? What was it about?

AM: I actually "wrote" my first story before I entered kindergarten. I dictated it to my aunt, who wrote it down, bound it into a book with yarn, and helped me to illustrate it. I've been writing ever since - stories, essays, poems, plays...you name it.

My first foray into romance fiction was in 2004. I got the fanfic bug and churned out reams of stories, but eventually I wanted my own sandbox to play in. I submitted my first erotic/paranormal romance to Changeling in 2005, and the rest is history!

ER: A lot of writers have the 'drawer story' - you know that manuscript you've been working on forever, that you pull out when you get a chance and look over again and again. What's your 'drawer story'?

AM: It's called "Flesh For Fantasy" - I actually have it in front of an editor now after finally deciding to revise it just one more time. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

ER: I love that song! Yummaliciousness incarnate, that's Billy Idol. Speaking of yummy, coffee is very popular among the writing crowd. If you drink it, how do you take it?

AM: I tend to be a Dr. Pepper girl, but when I do drink coffee, it's loaded with cream, sugar, and a little chocolate flavoring.

ER: Now that sounds tasty! I'd love a cup of that by my side while I was curled up with a good book. Since I'm thinking about R&R, when you aren't writing, or doing something associated with your work, what do you do for total, brainless relaxation, LOL?

AM: Sleep! Seriously. I am a devoted napper. I also watch a few television shows - Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Big Love, and South Park. And I read, of course...what writer doesn't read? I also love to cook - nothing fancy, just simple home cooking that you can't find in restaurants. Cooking relaxes me, plus it comes with the bonus reward of eating...my other favorite pastime ;)

ER: Mine too, LOL! Do you like action or romantic comedy in your movies?

AM: Honestly, neither. I like cult classics, foreign films, things like that. Thank God for Netflix.

ER: It seems music also goes hand and hand with creating. What kind of tunes do you jam to when writing erotic scenes? Emotional scenes? Fight scenes?

AM: Oh, man. I seem to give half of my income to iTunes! I'm constantly downloading songs for inspiration. For example, my current hero is a slayer/assassin/bodyguard - in other words, an all-around alpha male bad boy. So I've been listening to the Sopranos theme by A3 to get into his character when I write about him.

As for erotic scenes, I think Prince is the master. He's never far away from my playlist when my characters hit the sheets (or the ground, or the hood of a T-Bird...)

For emotional scenes, I'll go for something from my own angsty 80's teen years. The Cure, The Smiths, anything that makes me remember what it was like to yearn and long for someone unattainable.

ER: Give me a piece of sage advice. It doesn't have to be writing related, just something you find yourself following often.

AM: You can fix a bad page. You can't fix a blank one.

ER: That's good advice *G*. Okay, so that's the end of my questions. Now, here's where you get to plug a book and you better give us a hot tidbit to relish too, LMAO!

AM: Don't miss my sexy Escape coming out this summer!

Make your reservation now at Midnight Sun, the hottest vampire resort on the Gulf Coast!

Here's a teaser...

"You seem to have enjoyed that." She could detect the faintest note of pride in his voice, and had to smother a smile. But she was about to turn the tables.

"Not as much as you're going to enjoy this." She reached for her purse, feeling suddenly wicked and wanton, as if the woman she'd always secretly longed to be had taken over.

"You're not leaving, are you?" He rested on his heels, his erection looking almost painful.

"Not hardly." She removed one of the many peppermints she'd taken from the limousine.

"Then... ?" He let the question hang in the air.

"I'm going to do something I've always wanted to do." She unwrapped the red and white candy and popped it into her mouth. "Something I read about but never thought I'd actually try."

She watched as comprehension stole over his face, and he rose to his feet. She crawled toward him, a grin on her face as the biting cool of the mint filled her mouth.

He hissed out a breath when she took the hard length of him in her hand and directed the tip of his cock toward her lips. Instead of teasing him with licks and strokes of her tongue, she plunged him into the menthol chill of her mouth.
