Women With Rights
The women of Minoan Crete (about 1500B.C.), had far greater rights than their contemporaries elsewhere. A Minoan woman's dowry remained wholly at her disposal and could not be used by her husband without her permission. Divorce was a right available to women as well as men, and if the husband was shown to be at fault, the wife could reclaim any property she had given him in the marriage.
