![]() | by Emma Ray Garrett Celia Kyle I'm back from a bit of a sabbatical. The holidays are crazy around the Garrett home, with three little people and a slew of extended family. I hope the new year finds all of you well and in good spirits! This month's Time Out features the lovely Celia Kyle. A woman with a gift for unique creations of the erotic variety, Celia is also one of the most active, busiest women I know. So, without further ado, onward to the meat of the column, LOL! |
ER: We're often asked why we decided to be writers, LOL. My question isn't why, but rather when did you write what you consider your first story? What was it about?
CK: Oooh! I was reviewing for JERR in 2006 and met my friend Tasha. She was working on a story, but needed help with keeping things moving along so I said "What they heck? I can write reviews, right? I can so do this!" And off I went. August 2006 and I haven't looked back. Unfortunately, I'm not like other writers who have wanted to do this forever. I just got bit by the bug. HARD.
My first "by myself" story is a m/m/f ménage that may never see the light of day. It's not pretty folks. Trust me.
ER: That bug sure bites hard, LOL! Even though you're 'new' to writing, I know you have a "drawer" story. Will you tell us about it?
CK: *groan* I have a story. It's called "Love of a Good Woman" and is a contemporary m/m/f ménage. Let me tell you... head-hopping does not even begin to express the level of crappiness that my POV is. I literally changed point-of-views with every beat of my heart.
My thoughts went something like this as I wrote:
Oooh! He's thrusting, that'll be the guy.
Oooh! She's coming, that's the girl.
Oooh! Oooh! She's coming while he's licking.. that's both!
Yeah, and that's all in one paragraph. *shudder* It's bad. Though, I am rewriting it one chapter at a time.
ER: Oy, that sounds like a drawer story I have, LOL! Okay, so coffee is very popular among the writing crowd. If you drink it, how do you take it?
CK: *blech* I drink soda. Coke Zero baaabbyyyy!
ER: ROFL, I switch off between coffee and soda, but give it to me straight, thanks. I want all the sugar, caffeine, and calories :D!!
So, are you a "chaos" writer or a "silence" writer? Can you write anywhere, anytime, or do you have to have a quiet, you-place for creating?
CK: I am a chaos writer who can write through anything except my husband's voice. I swear, the radio can be blaring, but I'll hear him talking to the cats and it breaks my groove.
ER: LOL, finally, someone who can work through an air siren! My husband can't get through, but let one of my kids even sort of sound like they might be hurt and wham, Emma Ray is all out of whack.
Okay, no matter how much we love it, we need a break from creating once in a while. When you aren't writing, or doing something associated with your work, what do you do for total, brainless relaxation, LOL?
CK: M (owner of Changeling) lets us relax? I hadn't heard that one. Are you sure we're allowed to relax? I don't believe you.
Well, as long as you promise not to tell M... I read. Like MAD reading. I love historical romances. Specifically, westerns and medieval romances. Just because I write all the yummy details doesn't mean that I don't enjoy glancing over them when reading. Sacrilege, I know.
ER: LMAO, you can't actually tell M your relaxing! Although, I'm beginning to doubt you ever just veg out. You're one busy bee, Ce, active with many writer-related groups, with web site development, and a flurry of other things. Would you like to tell us a bit about some of your other work?
CK: Am I? Geesh. Until I sit down and think about everything I do, I don't realize that I'm running everywhere. LOL
I'm one of the "powers that be" over at Write. Read. Romance. (www.writereadromance.com) which is a free-to-join organization for writers and readers alike. We're in our infant stages, but eventually we'll be a gathering place for writers to learn more about and perfect their craft. It will also be a place for readers to converse with writers and find out about new releases.
I'm a member of EPIC, though a generally quiet one. What? I am quiet... there.
I run literalseduction.net, which provides free hosting to authors with no blinking banners or pop-up ads. In addition, I do graphic and web design for authors. My site, www.lsdesigns.net, just recently opened and I'm thrilled to offer professional websites to authors without breaking their bank.
I also co-founded The Pink Chair Diaries (www.pinkchairdiaries.com), which is a collection of free stories that all focus on a specific, well endowed, pink chair.
Hmm... I do have a secret I suppose I could share about a little somethin' somethin' in the works as well... A fellow author *cough* Tuesday Morrigan *cough* (she's also my critique/writing partner) and I are working on opening a review website (with extras!) for a specific romance sub-genre. We're talking niche market, here, folks. Think about what Tuesday writes and what I dabble in and you'll figure it out. ;)
ER: See, you are busy! Onto films then, when picking movies: action or romance?
CK: Uh, romance! LOL
ER: *giggle* I should have guessed. Why don't you give us a piece of sage advice? Writing related isn't necessary, just something you find yourself following often.
CK: This isn't writing related, but is for the female readers looking for or are in a serious relationship. My mother told me this on my wedding day: Don't do anything now that you're not willing to do FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
Following this advice means that hubby cleans, does laundry and handles the kitty litter. :D
ER: Damn good advice. Hey, my dh does the same stuff! GMTA, babe!!
Okay, so that's the end of my questions. Here start the good parts, LOL. We want some hot bits from one of your books! New or upcoming is great!
CK: Here's a quick, but hot, excerpt from my upcoming release, Rookery Cove: Nipped...
"Want to, Wills." Monty reached for his belt and Will didn't stop him. Couldn't stop him now. His cock ached and balls were drawn up tight. Whatever Monty had planned, Will was game.
In a flash Will's pants were unbuckled, zipper down and his khakis were pooled at his feet. Expecting to bottom to his lover as he often did, Monty surprised him by sinking to his knees, bare skin making contact with the hard tile.
"What?" Will didn't have a chance to utter more than the quick question.
Monty opened his mouth wide, enveloping Will in his moist heat and sucking hard on the tip of his cock. Unbidden, Will rose up onto his toes, unwilling to lose the utter heaven of having Monty's mouth on his cock when his lover tried to retreat.
Eyes rolling into the back of his head, he sighed when Monty took the not-so-subtle hint and swallowed more of his shaft.
"Mmm... Perfect. So good, Mont."
His lover moaned his agreement and the vibrations traveled through Will's cock, sliding and dancing along every nerve ending straight to his balls. Oh, fuck yeah.
This was heaven on earth. More than heaven on earth really. Normally, Monty topped Will, which he was fine with. He enjoyed a nice hard cock in his ass, but sometimes, it felt nice to be savored and catered to, like now.
Monty cupped Will's balls, tugging and squeezing the heavy globes between his legs. The oncoming orgasm surged forward and he almost spilled his seed down his lover's throat. Almost.
It was another near spill when Monty brought both of his hands into play. He continued to knead and squeeze Will's sac while he stroked his cock in time with the sliding of his mouth over Will's shaft.
"Close, Mont."
Gripping the counter for support, Will rocked his hips forward and back, making love to his man's mouth. The suction increased, and Will felt the telltale tingles of release dance along his spine. He jerked his hips when Monty pressed his tongue into the slit at the tip of his cock.
New. All of this was new and old at the same time. They hadn't loved like this in... Damn, forever.
Monty crooned low in his throat as he took him deep, deeper than before. The tip of Will's cock nudged the back of Mont's throat and Mont swallowed around him, the muscles massaging his near bursting erection.
Will's knees nearly gave way when Monty stroked his perineum, the tender skin just behind his balls was so, so sensitive and his lover knew just where to stroke. He held fast to the counter, not wanting a sudden fall to ruin this exquisite moment.
Monty sucked harder, stroked and teased, seeming to beg for Will's release and he was glad to give it to him.
ER: Whoa, nelly, I need me a cool cloth and a moment to compose myself, ROFL! It was damn nice to have you in Time Out, Celia! Thank you so much for playing!
And that's it for this month, folks. Looking into 2008, Time Out will feature authors like Dawn Montgomery, Lacey Savage, Kate Hill, Jade Buchanan, and many more. Oooh, I just can't wait! One more thing, this year I'd like to give you guys a chance to ask some questions too. If you have a question you'd like to ask, send me an email at emmaraygarrett@gmail.com. Please type "Time Out Reader Question" in the subject line. I'll read your questions and pose the best!
