by Kassie Burns

From Changeling Press site:
Jaz has a vital job to do, a job that saves lives. As a psychic empath, she probes the minds of criminals and gathers evidence to convict them. But the bloody images she sees leave her dead and cold when she goes home to the arms of her husband Gab. Now their two-year marriage contract is ending, and Jaz fears he won't renew.

Gab loves Jaz, but her work has made her frigid and turned their marriage bed to ice. Only a red-hot fantasy can drive the awful memories of her work from Jaz's mind, but can she share her deepest, darkest fantasy with Gab -- the one where she is sold as a slave and ravaged by a cruel, cold master?

When Gab issues an ultimatum -- her job or him -- Jaz is left with just one choice. She travels to Pegusus Pleasure Planet to live her fantasy in the House of Fulfillment and create a memory that will erase the bloody images from her mind. Will the passion she finds in the arms of her dominating master separate her from Gab or reunite them forever?

My review:

Kassie Burns is a new author to me but I was in the mood for something different so I picked up her latest book after a friend mentioned it. I found the blurb intriguing and realized that I was interested in seeing not only how Jaz lives out her fantasy but also how it all affects her marriage.

I'm glad I picked this story up. Ms. Burns' ability to get right into her character's mind had me empathizing with Jaz. While I of course don't deal with the issues raised with being a psychic empathy dealing with violent criminals some of Jaz's insecurities and self-doubts resonated strongly with me and I think that's part of what drew me to her. I like when a writer can create a character I can relate with, even if it's in some small way. For some, it's just me thinking "hey, I wanna be like her when I grow up."

Jaz's fantasy is an exciting one and only just a part of some awesome heat generated in this book. I really enjoyed reading this story and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Burns' work.
