Facts of Life

by DaHeap
Original Fruit

Fact: Most scholars agree the one fruit that could not have been referred to as being eaten by Eve in the Bible is an apple. Apples were not likely to be grown in the Bible lands of the Old Testament time. However, apples were cultivated by the Egyptians, and the Romans at the time of Christ had more than 20 varieties. Solomon referred to a fruit which was "sweet in my taste". This was most likely a reference to the areas favorite fruit the "apricot." Another source of confusion was the medieval custom of calling many different kinds of fruits "apple". Lemons were known as "Persian apples," dates as "finger apples, " and pomegranates as "apples of Carthage."
