Meet Cynthia Sax
by Isy Jordan

Meet wonderful new Changeling Press author, Cynthia Sax!

Isy: Cynthia, thank you for talking with us at A Cheeky Changeling. Please tell us about your wonderful new release, Dragon Lord's Mate.

Cynthia: Thank you for having me, Isy. I’m excited. Interviews are so much fun! You’re going to edit this to make me sound intelligent, right? Right?

Anyhoo... Changeling has the wonderful, wonderful Dragon Kin series (Selena Illyria’s Dragon Kin: Reclaimed? Oh! La! La!). I’m loving it! Dragon Lord’s Mate isn’t part of that series but it IS a dragonshifter story. It is set back in the day, when men were men and dragonshifters were... well, not men all of the time. There are knights and ladies and magic and dragon battles and quite a bit of the sexy-sexy.

I started the series with Princess Taja and Lord Grun because Princess Taja is so accustomed to coming in second, I wanted her to be first for a change. 'Course she doesn't think Grun's real. That creates a bit of a problem.

Here is the official blurb.

There comes a time when even princesses have to give up their dream men.

Every night in her dreams, Princess Taja experiments sexually with a dragon lord. She knows he isn’t real. Her fantasy man is pressing her for a commitment, something she can’t and won’t give. She needs a flesh and blood man to safeguard her kingdom, not a man her lonely heart conjured up. When the line between dream and reality blurs, will Princess Taja find love?

Isy: So your heroine just thinks her dream lover is, well, a dream. Where did you get the idea for this sexy story?

Cynthia: Many dragonshifters have destined mates.. That can make for an awkward first meeting.

Dragonshifter: I am your one and only love. We will spend eternity together.
Bewildered Love Interest: Who the hell are you?

The dragon lords have the ability to reach out to their mates through a dreamlike link. They literally become their mates' dream men. I know, I know, it sounds a bit corny but it does have many benefits. By the time dragon lords physically find their mates, they have a solid idea of what their ladies like in and out of bed. Because they believe it is a dream, their ladies are more willing to experiment. They don't freak out upon meeting a dragonshifter. It is a dream. They can't be harmed in a dream, not that dragon lords would ever intentionally harm their mates. They are comfortable with each other by the time they physically see each other.

Isy: What do you like about Princess Taja and how do you relate to her?

Cynthia: Princess Taja spends most of her life being number two. Her brother, Raaf, is heir to the kingdom. She’s the spare. She isn’t bitter about that though. She loves her brother and does her best to support him.

I’m the second eldest too. Coming from a large family, I accepted that I wouldn’t be the center of attention. I happily play a supporting role and prefer not to be in the spotlight. My mom might tell you that's because it is easier to get into trouble when not being watched. What does she know? She has only known me my entire life.

Isy: What do you like about her dragon lord and why might he be perfect for her?

Cynthia: Grun is a scarred dragonshifting lord.. What is there NOT to like about him? I love scarred heroes. Yum!

Grun and Taja are both warriors. Grun has spent most of his life around other warriors. He is a rough and tough guy. He doesn't talk much. He prefers action. Taja also isn't accustomed to courtly behaviour. Flattery embarrasses her. She'd rather wear breeches than dresses.

Isy: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

Cynthia: Dragon Lord’s Prize, book two in the series, will be released at the end of February. This is the tempestuous romance between Lady Sabine and Lord Berg, the golden dragonshifter. Lady Sabine finds it challenging to take her laughing dragon lord seriously.

Isy: How do you balance a job, a family, a writing career...?

Cynthia: I use every spare moment. If I'm standing in line at the grocery store, I'm jotting notes on a pad of paper. If I'm waiting for a plane to depart, I'm typing on my laptop. Yep, I'm really, really annoying.

I also jack myself up with chocolate so I only need four hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep results in some very creative thoughts. I'll get to thinking 'What if a giant fell in love with a fairy? How would they have sex?' That's why I usually let ideas sit for a while before working on them.

Isy: What's a typical day like for you?

Cynthia: (Frowning) Hey, what's with these questions? Did someone tell you about the superglue incident? For your information, the hubby didn't end up going to the emergency room and yes, the feathers eventually came off that part of his anatomy.

My life isn’t very exciting. I get up, work out, write my 500 words, go to work for 12 to 14 hours, come home, eat, edit, and go to sleep. Rinse and repeat.. Ahh... the glamorous life of a brand new writer.

Cynthia: What do you consider a really satisfying writing day?

I love it when I'm in the zone. That's when I'm so into the story that the house could collapse around me and I wouldn't notice.

It is kind of like falling in love. When I saw my husband for the first time, the rest of the world faded away. It was just me and him with his gorgeous grin and smiley eyes. It was that perfect moment in time (and 16 years later, we are still very much in love).

Isy: What do you personally enjoy reading?

Cynthia:I, of course, loved Shana Abe's The Smoke Thief. That was my first introduction to dragonshifters and it rocked my world. Dragon + Man = Hot, Hot, Hot! Knuckles in Mina Carter's Sunlight & Slavery, yowsers, what a hero! I could reread that book a million times. I read mostly historical or paranormal romances, the spicier the better.

Isy: What would you most like to accomplish this year?

Cynthia: I have one more Dragon Lord story I'd like to write and then at least two more stories spinning out of those. Lord Berg has a twin sister. Having been nurtured in the womb with a dragonshifter has made her... different. Prince Raaf also needs a woman. Then there is a unicorn king causing a ruckus, looking for his virgin. Changeling also has some fun new projects I'd love to be involved in. 2010 is going to be an exciting year!

Thank you so much, Isy! I had a blast!

Isy: Thank YOU!
