What are e-books and how do I read them?

Electronic Books, or E-books, are books created in digital file format to be read on a computer or handheld device. If the manual for your latest gadget came on CD or DVD, and you read it, you've read an e-book. At a minimum, the web browser you're using to look at our site (such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) is good enough to enjoy any of our books. Keep reading to learn about other options.

What formats are the e-books available for?

Changeling Press offers its e-books in the following formats:

Adobe Acrobat/PDF files
By far our most popular file format, Adobe PDF files are an Internet standard. The Adobe reader is available as a free download at www.adobe.com -- click Get Adobe Reader.:



Microsoft Reader/LIT files
The Microsoft Reader/LIT reader is available as a free download at www.microsoft.com/reader:



Mobipocket/Kindle PRC Files
Mobipocket Reader for Kindle and other handheld devices is available as a free download at www.mobipocket.com:



HTML (Zipped)/Stanza files
HTML files may be read on any web browser, and will work in almost any handheld device with a built in browser. Files are condensed using the ZIP format and you must have a program to unzip the file.

HTML Self-extracting/ zip.exe files
This HTML format includes a self-extractor, which means that you do not need to have any ZIP software in order to read the eBook. Simply download the file and double-click on it. Please be aware that this HTML format is an .EXE file extension. Some virus scanners will report a false positives for all .EXE files. DO NOT choose this format for any Mac OS.

Epub/iPad & iTouch Files
