Shelby Morgen
What was your first release at Changeling? A Kiss In The Dark
Year: March 2004. I wrote Kiss In The Dark to test the shopping cart when Changeling first opened -- and it was Dakota Cassidy's fault. We were arguing about characters telling each other their names. I said I could write a whole short story with no names. I won!

That little story remains one of Shelby's all time best sellers. So a couple years later I wrote a much longer sequel, Kiss In The Dark 2, Locations (As in the locations questions on the Purity Test).
Still available? What's your next release, and when?
Those questions all go together -- Kiss In The Dark, Duet, is releasing just in time for Changeling's 13th Birthday Bash. Click here to read more.
What's your favorite Changeling title?
Oh, that's HARD. I love all our books. Would have to be either Dark Callings by Elizabeth Jewell or Forbidden by Marteeka Karland. Or My Valentine by Kate Douglas. Or Kate Hill's Elixir Maidens. (Which has one of the best covers ever on it -- and I still remembering ordering that cover, and the cover art director, who's about as straight as it gets, saying "Do WHAT?" and how blown away I was when I saw his results...) Or... OK. OK. Stopping now. Wait, I didn't list Sean Michael, or Angela Knight, or Jessica Coulter Smith, or...

Kate Douglas
What was your first release at Changeling? Hmmmm... First book at Changeling was Wolf Tales: Stefan, in 2004. It, along with the four other stories I'd written in the serial, were purchased by Kensington Publishing in 2005, and released in 2006 as a single title book, called simply enough, Wolf Tales. It showed up on shelves in November 2005 though it was slated for release in January 2006, but it had sold out of its original 19,000 print run before the release date. It eventually went into 11 print runs and continues to be my top seller at Kensington. That book spawned eleven more novels and nine novellas, as well as a spin-off series called Spirit Wild. I've just completed the fifth book in that series, but it is the title that opened up my NY career, something I'd been after for twenty years.

I also wrote a few more stories for Changeling Press over the years and have one more in particular I'm hoping to write before I'm too old to think of sex. Come to think of it, I don't imagine that's going to happen...

One thing I always have to include is how grateful I am to M for releasing me from my contract when Kensington came calling. That and the fact that it was her truly beautifully warped mind that led to the series in the first place.

M: okay, I'm going to start a new ebook publishing company and we're gonna do shorter, really sexy stories that readers can read on their PDAs. (yep, dating ourselves)
K: Whatdaya want?
M: Shape shifters are hot right now. Readers really love sexy shifter stories.
K: I'm not writing bears.
M: I didn't say you had to. (A snort was implied)
K: I'll do wolves. Wolves are sexy.
I don't think even M had any idea how sexy wolves could be. The first book pushed the editor's limits and she refused to edit the second story due to the little issue of a rape scene between two men, one caught halfway between human and wolf, the other who shifts into his wolf form mid-rape. I went to M and she said "Make sure the reader knows why it's necessary."

Oddly enough, New York never blinked. I imagine they were in shock over what the editor had bought from me, and once the sales started, no one cared what was in the books, so long as I kept writing them.
Favorite Changeling title? My own or someone else's? My own? Probably My Valentine, a story I wrote in a weekend for M when someone didn't turn their book in on time. It's not overly sexy, but I've always loved the feel of it. Someone else's? I'd have to say anything by Willa Okati because she writes the sweetest/sexiest M/M stories I've ever read.
